Hengist Series

Swashbuckling Medieval Adventure

A Knight’s Tale meets Robin Hood

This really is a series to enrich the imagination. There are dashing sword fights, arrows that find their mark, a destiny to be fulfilled and a host of unforgettable characters. Enchanting to the last page, Archer has the feel of an epic saga in the making. Gray isn’t one to pen unwieldy tomes, but through a certain economy of prose she always finds the right balance to bring her characters to life and make them increasingly endearing.”

A fast-paced adventure set in an alternative reality in which teenagers are actively involved in jousting and archery. The main character, Archer, draws the reader in through his thoughtfulness, cynicism, sense of honor as well as his skill at archery. Ms. Gray’s writing is crisp and clean, creating an absorbing world with memorable characters and an action-packed plot.”

Veronica Richards, Author

Mmm. Shoot an apple off his friend’s head or lose his food, horse and clothes? Some decisions require little thought.
Being orphaned as a baby makes Archer subject to every kind of bully. Add in a bunch of warrior gifts he never asked for and he may as well wear a target on his back. He can’t help being stronger and faster than other boys or that every arrow he looses will hit the bullseye, even if his eyes are closed. One nasty piece of work is determined to break Archer, but it’s only when the torment goes too far his life changes for the better.
First, the girl he’s fancied for ever finally notices him. Too bad his adversary’s machinations result in Archer accusing her of treachery – and the rest. Second, a couple of jokers team up to accompany him on the sort of adventures which result in songs being sung about them. Third, he impresses a master bowman who gives him a yew staff with surprising properties to carve into his own bow.
At the Beltane ritual, he must fight his friends to see who is most worthy, and try to win back his girl. But Archer’s real battle is with an enemy whose callous disrespect for the natural order brings dangerous consequences.

Halfway though the book, I actually had to close down my Kindle and walk away; I knew just what that vile Mandy was going to do. I absolutely loved all the outsmarting of the bad-guy bits, and Ms. Gray did a fabulous job with expressing the value of “turning the other cheek.” Blackmail is just wrong, wrong, wrong! LOVED how they set up the leader – smart, unique, and hilarious!!

Stick his neck out to save the so-called friends who betrayed him? Would you?
Archer’s reward for being the most worthy student in his graduating class is to lose his home and all his friends.
Sent from his tranquil, medieval life to aggressive, modern-day England, Archer’s mission is to report back about cars, computers and even chocolate. The other foster boys try to break his spirit by threatening him with his own bow – they have no idea they are dealing with a trained warrior. He teaches them honour, integrity and archery; they teach him how to get in trouble with the authorities.
Forced to move foster homes, things go downhill as pink-haired Mandy takes a fancy to his athletic body – his warrior defences are useless against her obnoxious wiles.
Mandy seems determined to drag Archer into the shady world of Stiff and his gang of teenage shoplifters.

“Gripping”

Reagan

This romantic fantasy will appeal to fans of Da-Vinci-Code style of mysteries, magical adventure and irreverent (British) humour.

Click the picture to pick up your copy and experience the heartache of a boy genius who doesn’t get the recognition he deserves, even from his own parents.

I’m not a math nerd, but thoroughly enjoyed looking for patterns along with Reagan. I picked up this book because I have an unnatural obsession with the chalk horses of England and was not disappointed! This is a well-researched slice of both topics and a very good coming-of-age story which shows young people making decisions that will define them and shape them into persons of character.

Lisa Rikand, Author

Decode the mysteries of white horses, crop circles and ley-lines to save his people? No pressure, then.
Reagan knows he’s nothing special; his mother reminds him often enough. Being shy and scruffy makes him inadequate in her eyes; winning the Garlanding and scoring 100% on his graduation tests are of little consequence. But his mathematical skills and ability to sense ley-lines are essential to the council for determining the cause of dangerous accidents in the village. Aided by his spirit guide and an irreverent trainer, Kalen, sparks fly when they meet Reeve, daughter of the leading authority on white horses.
The quest becomes a race against time as an epidemic claims numerous casualties. Can Reagan find the missing pieces of the puzzle before his perilous gift destroys him, as it destroyed so many chosen children?

“Fantastic”

Slater

This swashbuckling romantic fantasy will appeal to fans of action-adventure, time-travel and the story behind Stonehenge.

I thoroughly enjoyed Slater. It covered my favorite topic from ancient history – Stonehenge. I was lucky enough to wander through Stonehenge a few years ago, so seeing its creation (fictional as it might be) was fantastic. The different timelines that Slater is thrown into, and the challenges he meets, are really cool. It’s exciting and suspenseful, while also being educational. I loved it, and my kids are loving it, too.

Andrea Domanski, Author

Knowledge is dangerous. What Slater knows about the altar stone could prove fatal.
Slater is the son of Mason, but he will never be a chip off the old block. Although his father is responsible for Aveburgh henge, Slater is more interested in learning about the ceremonies held amongst the stones.
Torn from a solstice celebration into a real-life nightmare, Slater’s talent for reading ley lines upsets dark forces. Ancient magic pulls him back in time to reveal his connection to primeval secrets. There, he is teased by formidable priestesses who teach him the power of earth energies. Slater’s ability to solve problems under pressure is his strongest weapon against terrifying shamen who want only one thing from him – his death.
Only Slater knows the prehistoric temples are not built correctly, but what will happen if he interferes in the past?

Intriguing

Geraint

This epic, medieval fantasy will appeal to fans of Romeo and Juliet romance, magical adventure and irreverent (British) humour.

I’ve read every book in this series and have loved each of them. Renegates have played a role in several of the stories, but this is the first one where they take center stage. I really loved getting to know Geraint and the Renegate lifestyle. Of course, the adventure contained both inner and outer battles, and the spiritual magic that I’ve grown to love in this series. The characters are fully believable and I found myself rooting for more than just the main character in this one.

Keri Armstrong, Author

Purest Evil threatens Renegates and Townies alike. Can Geraint unite these warring factions in time to save Oxford?
Geraint’s life is Hell. He despises his father’s scavenging lifestyle and loathes the brutal training designed to make him worthy of being the next Renegate leader. Light brightens Geraint’s darkness when he meets Siany, a Townie girl who teaches him how to read, write and believe in himself.
Prophetic dreams help Geraint to save Siany’s family from cut-throat bandits, who go on to besiege Oxford, a stepping stone to ruling the land. Geraint and Siany’s role in uniting their peoples against this evil is crucial, working alongside the legendary Archer. Then the warrior’s nemesis joins the murderous band, making death and destruction inevitable.
When the connection between the pair foils the monster’s plans, Archer must race against the sunrise to save them.

Archer’s Quest Boxset

A Knight’s Tale meets Robin Hood, this magical, entertaining series brings a medieval world to life.

A fascinating story with many parallels to today’s world. The characters are well written and the plot has a lot of intrigue, secrets, people acting strangely and a supernatural element. If you enjoy the medieval period or simply a good story, you will not want to miss this one. It has an amazing cast of characters, but of course some evil had to creep in to keep things interesting. There are some really complicated relationships that are resolved by the end of the tale. This series is strangely addicting.”

Action-packed adventure with oodles of humour, a sprinkling of magic, and a dash of romance.
The first two Hengist books feature Archer – a warrior out of time and place.
#1 – Archer
This story follows his adventures in his own world, where he must fight – against his enemies, his friends and even the girl he loves in order to prevail.

#2 – Rory
This story sees Archer travelling to a foreign world filled with marvels such as chocolate, cars and computers, none of which exist in his own, quasi-medieval homeworld. The challenges are very similar as he meets a raft of lads – and even a girl – who want nothing more than to take him down.

Bonus Extra – Bad Lads, sees three of the thugs Archer encountered along the way grabbing the mic and telling their own tales.
Edlyn’s Evil Scheme gives a totally different viewpoint of our hero, Archer, showing that he’s not the flawless hero some people believe him to be.
Jack Jumps Hoops provides an insight into how circumstances can conspire to destroy a lad’s sense of worth when his only survival option is class-clown cowardice.
Pete’s Perpetual Predicament shows how even the most devoted of sons can be reduced to anything but heroic when the only person on his side is his mum.

The next boxset in this series is:
Uniting the Tribes – how Reagan, Slater and Geraint play their parts in healing the rift threatening to tear apart the world of the Hengist people.

~~~*~~~
Prior to this, find out how this Medieval-alternate-world came into being by reading the Nature’s Tribe stories – Call the Midwife meets Poldark meets The Good Witch.
The final series, Colour of Light, follows the adventures of Archer and Rory as they discover how their shared heritage empowers them to save the alternate world.
That’s 13 books in this engaging saga. Hope you have a free week or two!
