Magical, Medieval Romantic Fantasy

Call the Midwife meets The Good Witch

These books are intense. Mysterious. Intriguing. I won’t forget the third book any time soon. It made an impression, a lasting impression. It’s a moving tale! The fact that I couldn’t let it go for a long time after reading it, should tell you something.”

I really enjoy these medieval romances – they read well. I appreciate how the characters respect and defend each other and I relished the intertwining of the characters’ relationships and lives. The push and pull of our daily interactions with others is explored in the pages and beautifully written. I loved Lyran’s cheeky comments in the epilogue. They moved the story on nicely, tying into the endearing story in book 2.”

Exactly whose handfasting is this? Senna feels like nothing but an inconvenience at her own wedding.
Instead of the small, serene event Senna and Lyran conceived, his father seems determined to take over every aspect, from what she should wear to exactly what and when their guests should eat. His reason for inviting the entire village, and commissioning a chef to royalty, is clear.
Power.
The magister wishes to impress people who could gain him a position on the council. But when Lyran swaps his heartfelt vows for the complex ones his father deems appropriate, Senna’s anger boils in the midsummer sun. Is the man she’s marrying too weak to stand up for himself? It does not augur well for their life together if he is nothing more than his father’s puppet instead of the generous, independent man she thought she knew.
This medieval, Wedding-themed romantic tale will appeal to fans of Call the Midwife, Poldark and Robin Hood who enjoy elements of magical realism, mystery and humour.

The quiet tension made it a fascinating study of where many of our modern Christmas traditions have their roots as well as how much changed when Christianity supplanted the pagan religion in which women played a much larger role. I thoroughly enjoyed the romance between Senna and Jarl, who must win Senna’s affections before domineering Domenyk lures her into a loveless marriage. I’ll read this one every Yuletide.”

A self-important official or an unreliable mercenary? Not much of a choice.
Senna’s year of mourning ends on the twelfth day of Yule, and she must choose her protector. Domenyk, a well-respected magister needs a woman of substance to accompany him on his ascent to leader of the council – the most powerful man in the village. Jarl was her late husband’s best friend, but he spends more time away from the village as a sought-after military commander. And he’s not too good at keeping his promises.
As she prepares for the Yule festivities, Senna’s standing as the village healer is called into question by powerful adversaries when complications arise for two of her expectant mothers. The stakes ramp up as the ancient Pagan practices are threatened by the new religion and the village’s three best defenders disappear.
Thankfully, someone is looking out for Senna – her dead husband, Lyran.

I can not express how much I have enjoyed these three books and while it helps if you know the various characters from the previous book, you will be able to read this one as a standalone. While portions of the story overlap, they are told from a different perspective and mold themselves into a deeper plot, one that will endanger the lives of all the people in the village before it is done. This is the best book in this series and the characters in this tale will stir your heart as you follow them thru the highs and lows of the turbulent year.

Cal knows eavesdroppers never hear anything to their advantage. But he really didn’t need to hear Lyrelie’s offhand dismissal to know she thought him unworthy.

A glorious insight into a magical world I wish I could visit for real – a must for lovers of anything medieval! I loved this “eco” twist – and the usual dramatic, endearing and heart-wrenching stories that drew the characters together and tore them apart. I especially loved finding out more about Eanje’s past, while the tangled mess Lyran and Jarl had got themselves into had some heart-stopping moments! Wow, the ending had a twist and a half.”

Katy Haye, Author

Does a fallen woman deserve to find love?
Eanje’s tormented childhood forced her to make some unsavoury choices. She refuses to waste time crying over her past, and the things she was forced to do in order to survive. If onlys have no place in her life, not even when she finds herself pregnant.
This is where it gets messy.
Lyran has shown Eanje nothing but kindness since they moved to this new world after the ravages of the Black Death, and ideally he is the father. But learning of her past raises dark suspicions, disrupting the harmony. One thing for sure, it could not be the only man she’d ever loved, because he is spoken for and, despite her reputation, she does have standards.
As the fertile new world brings many challenges, Eanje has no idea whether any of her experiences to date will prepare her for this new adventure.

A fascinating story with many parallels to today’s world. The characters are well written and the plot has a lot of intrigue, secrets, people acting strangely and a supernatural element. If you enjoy the medieval period or simply a good story, you will not want to miss this one. It has an amazing cast of characters, but of course some evil had to creep in to keep things interesting. There are some really complicated relationships that are resolved by the end of the tale. This series is strangely addicting.”
